On the 28th February 2012, Michelle Cocker from our Private Client Team, gave a presentation to the members of the Alzheimers Society Support Group at their meeting in Nelson.
Our Team work with Julie Hesketh, who is the Dementia Support Worker for East Lancashire and have visited many of the local support groups over the last few years.
The purpose of the presentation is to inform families who may have a family member who is suffering from Dementia, Alzheimers or other related illnesses as to how the individuals’ property and affairs can be looked after on a practical and legal basis.
We discuss Powers of Attorney (for both money and property and for Health and Welfare) and also consider problems of property ownership, assessments for care and residential costs and the associated issues relating to making a Will.
"We always find that after giving a presentation such as the above it gives people more knowledge, something to think about and an opportunity to take more detailed advice for their specific circumstances" said Michelle.
It is important to note, however, that it is never too early to instruct us to prepare an LPA for you, as once it is signed and registered with the Office of the Public Guardian it can be stored safely until such time as it is needed.
