Finance

Upon separation efforts should be made to try and resolve financial matters without having to resort to court proceedings.  It may be possible to negotiate an amicable financial settlement through mediation but if this is not possible, or appropriate, through legal channels.  We aim to help you reach an amicable settlement without the need for court proceedings, as this is usually cheaper and has less of an emotional impact.

If a settlement can be reached the terms can be embodied in a Consent Order which is a written agreement submitted to the court for approval and which forms the basis of future financial provision.  Some couples never get as far as divorce and are happy to simply stay apart.  If an agreement is reached in relation to finances in these circumstances, it is sensible to record any agreement in a Deed of Separation.
