Care proceedings
The Social Services have a duty and responsibility towards all children whose health or development may be impaired without provision of support and services.
When a child at risk comes to the attention of Social Services an initial assessment must be completed and usually a Child Protection Conference will be convened. If immediate or emergency intervention into a family is not required, the child may be registered on the Child Protection Register which allows the Local Authority to manage information about the child who is thought to have suffered from:-
-
Physical Abuse;
-
Emotional Abuse;
-
Sexual Abuse; or
-
Neglect.
In some circumstances the Local Authority may go to Court for a Care or Supervision Order to safeguard or promote a child’s welfare.
These can be very difficult times for the child and for the family involved.
Our Family Law Team have considerable experience in representing chilren, parents and other relatives in this type of situation and are able to advise you of the best way of ensuring that your wishes are taken into account when your child's welfare is being considered.
