Lasting Powers of Attorney

Everybody needs a power of attorney in our opinion. It isnít something that is unusual or is only needed in difficult circumstances. It is, in our opinion, an insurance policy that ensures that in the event of the unexpected you are protected and the difficult possible circumstances will not happen.

A Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to nominate individuals (called Attorneys) to have legal authority to manage your financial affairs on your behalf. This can be useful if you are abroad, physically or mentally incapacitated or simply want someone to help you manage your affairs.

By having proper legal authority, your Attorneys will be able to deal with all your affairs and the necessary organisations on your behalf with no issues.

There are two type of Lasting Powers of Attorney;

  • Health and Welfare
  • Proeprty & Financial Affairs

For further detials of the types, please click the link above but detail below is a brief overview of the benefits.

Key benefits

A Lasting Power of Attorney offers peace of mind that people you trust will be allowed to manage your financial affairs on your behalf when the need arises. This can include the following:

  • Paying bills
  • Claiming benefits, pensions and allowances
  • Operating bank or building society accounts
  • Giving gifts to family members or charities
  • Buying or selling property

Without a Lasting Power of Attorney in place, your loved ones will find it very difficult to manage your financial affairs for you effectively as they will not have legal authority to do so.

When this could help

A Lasting Power of Attorney can be made in advance of you needing help in managing your affairs. It can be created to take effect straight away or at some point in the future.

For a Lasting Power of Attorney to be effective, it must be registered with The Office of the Public Guardian.

We offer a professionally completed and registered Lasting Power of Attorney offering you the peace of mind that the right plans are in place for the future.
